Thanks Mr. Governor: Ed Rendell (D) PA, tells us America is “not ready” for Black President

Thanks to Field Negro and Francis Holland for turning me on to this story out of Pennsylvania. It seems that the governor is trying to use a jedi mind trick on white voters in the Quaker State.

“You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate,” Gov. Ed Rendell

Governor Ed Rendell is a huge Hillary Clinton Supporter, and his state will host an important Democratic primary on April 22nd. The Associated Press reports on a not so subtle instance of color-arousal being employed by Governor Rendell.

There are so many wonderful nuggets in this Associated Press article, I almost don’t know where to start. How about a few quotes:

  • “You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate.” This was told to the Pittsburg Post-Gazette editorial board.
  • “I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann been the identical candidate that he was — well-spoken, charismatic, good-looking — but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so.”
  • “He was simply making an observation about the unfortunate nature of some parts of American society,” said spokesman Chuck Ardo. “He wasn’t being critical, he wasn’t making accusations, but just being realistic.”

Message to my white brothers and sisters: NEVER REFER TO A BLACK MAN OR WOMAN AS “WELL-SPOKEN!!!”
Are these astute observation by the governor or dirty pool? You be the judge, I’ve made up my mind.

The Clinton people are counting on those very voters to propel her into the White House. They would rather win with voters who have the racist attitudes he speaks of than lose without them.
