CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON TO HOST REFUGEE DAY WORKSHOP
Washington, DC – (Wednesday, August 15, 2007) Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today announced that she will host a Refugee Day Workshop, the first of its kind in North Texas, on Saturday, August 18th . "In the last few years, the Dallas area has taken in an increasing number of refugees from around the world. Families and individuals fleeing persecution in their native lands have relocated to our area seeking a sense of normalcy."
"With the help of outstanding organizations in North Texas, I am organizinga Dallas Refugee Day Workshop. It is my hope that through education and an increased dialogue, we can create better conditions for refugees to lead productive and dignified lives." said Congresswoman Johnson.
Information regarding low-cost legal services, vocational training, languageclasses, job placement and low-cost health services will be available. Translators for Amharic, Arabic, Somali, Swahili, Italian, Kikuyu, and Spanish will also be available. There is no cost to attend.
