Geraldine Ferraro removes herself from Clinton campaign, blames Obama staff
“I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.” Those are the words Geraldine Ferraro wrote to Hillary Clinton informing her that she was planning to step down from her fundraising position.
Ferraro told Suzanne Malveaux of CNN that she was “absolutely not” sorry for her comments. On Tuesday it was reported that Ferraro said that the only reason that Obama was in the position he’s in is because he is black.
In a 1988 Washington Post article, Ferraro was quoted as saying Jesse Jackson was finding success in the presidential race because of his “radical” views, “if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.” She stands by this race baiting type of politics, and has pulled it out of the playbook now 20 years later.
Were it a Republican who said the things Ferraro has stated (or Bill Clinton for that matter), the Democratic establishment would be all over them. Now they’ve given the GOP creative license to do and say whatever when Obama becomes the nominee. Geraldine’s sentiments are not that far from comments made by Rush Limbaugh about Donovan McNabb when Limbaugh worked as an ESPN analyst.
This is why I have never been able to align myself with the Democratic Party. Because bigoted liberals like Geraldine are there to undermine anything that uppity black Democrats do to get out of place in the middle of the bus.
