LeVar “L D” Thomas files to run for Dallas City Council in District 8
For a while I’ve been saying that Dallas deserves better leadership. It looks like voters will have another candidate 0along with Casey Thomas- that can help to make that happen.
On Friday January 9, LeVar “L.D.” Thomas will host a press conference where he answers the question of whether or not he will seek the council seat once held by his grandfather – former councilman Al Lipscomb. On Thursday, Thomas will submit his resignation to the Dallas City Housing Finance Corporation Board and file the necessary paperwork identifying a campaign Treasurer.
“We have so much potential in District 8: two colleges, an airport, a mall, an inland port, and thousands of people ready and willing to work,” Thomas said when asked why he’s running for the seat currently held by Tennell Atkins. “Yet our neighborhoods are seemingly getting worse.”
For such a young man, Thomas has an extensive resume of civic leadership. He was first appointed to the Dallas Youth Commission in 1995, and went on to serve on the Human Services Commission, Martin Luther King Center Board, and most recently the City of Dallas Housing Finance Corporation Board.
L.D. currently serves as Chair of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats Dallas Chapter, which just hosted their highly successful “I Believe” Inaugural Affair. I’m extremely excited about these recent developments in the council race. Stay tuned, I’m sure we’ll hear more in the weeks and months to come.
