Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh Steelers headed to see the Presdent
I can’t wait for the day when Mike Tomlin takes his Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers to the White House to meet the President. What a wonderful day it will be.
Art Rooney, the owner or the Pittsburgh Steelers gave the President a shout out from the podium tonight as he accepted the Lombardi Trophy, the 6th in the Steelers history. Mr. Rooney endorsed Obama ahead of the Pennsylvania Primary last April.
Rooney is also chairman of the NFL’s diversity committee and the namesake of “The Rooney Rule” which requires teams to interview a “minority” candidates for any NFL head coach opening. He put his money where is mouth was entrusting the Steelers to young Tomlin and tonight he was rewarded with another Super Bowl ring.
Rooney hired Tomlin as the Steelers Head Coach after Bill Cowher stepped down in January of 2007. The 36 year Tomlin is the youngest head coach to ever win a Super Bowl. He is the 2nd African-American head coach to hoist the Lombardi Trophy (Tony Dungy).
Congrats to Coach Tomlin and the Steelers. What a great two weeks.
