Dear Friend,
I firmly believe that the burden of peacemaking and peace building cannot be left to one institution, gender or political party. It must be a shared responsibility that encompasses all, regardless of race, class, gender and religion. I began A World of Women for World Peace to bring greater visibility to the women who are victims of war and aggression and the women who lead peacemaking, peacekeeping and peace-building activities in their communities. Please join me and expert speakers to discuss the increasingly vital issue of “Conflict resolution, nuclear and conventional disarmament, creating a culture of peace, and human rights and humanitarian law.”

Ann Margolin was the first woman to chair the board of Parkland Memorial Hospital and has served on the Dallas Planning and Zoning Commission. She is currently serving on the Dallas Park and Recreation Board and the Parkland Blue Ribbon Task Force. She has been president of Girls Incorporated, The Chiapas Project and The Dallas Summit. She has served on the boards of Safer Dallas, Better Dallas, Prison Entrepreneurship Program, North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Dallas Women’s Foundation, Parkland Foundation, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, Southwestern Medical Foundation and the Northwestern University School of Communication Advisory Board. Ms. Margolin has received the Maura Award from the Women’s Museum and will soon receive the Public Servant Award from the Women’s Council of Dallas County.

Vivian Castleberry is founder of Peacemakers, Incorporated. She is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU), and an SMU Distinguished Alumnae. She has served as the women’s editor of the Dallas Times Herald during which she won numerous journalism awards. Ms. Castleberry is a member of the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame and has written four books: Daughters of Dallas, The Texas Tornado, Sarah the Bridge Builder, and Seeds of Success.
Carol Donavan is the President of Peacemakers Incorporated. She has practiced law in Dallas for 25 years and currently serves as an Attorney-Mediator for the Dallas courts. In both her profession and in her community work, Ms. Donovan works to resolve disputes and to facilitate communication. Ms. Donovan is a native of Dallas and is the founder of the Annual Susan B. Anthony Award Luncheon held in Dallas.
Lucy Mashua is president and founder of Mashua’s Voice for the Voiceless. She is a activist and speaker assisting refugees in Dallas, Texas. Lucy has lived in eight African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo engaging in social and political activism.
Dona Mitchell is a faith based inspirational playwright, master storyteller, screenwriter, poet, actress, artist, and songwriter. A native of Dallas, she has written over a hundred plays and staged approximately thirty-five to include HIV/AIDS, homelessness, gang intervention, suicide intervention, character, substance abuse, peace and more. Her ultimate goal is to write for a major TV/film company and produce her own feature films. She has completed her first short film in Dallas and is working to complete her second.
Dr. Mary Ellen Weber is Vice President for Government Affairs and Policy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Weber was a NASA Astronaut for ten years and is the veteran of two Space Shuttle flights. She has held key positions in building businesses from space research, in strategic communications, and in program oversight. Dr. Weber is the recipient of the Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas “She Knows Where She’s Going” award and is also an accomplished speaker on risk, excellence, and the future of space exploration.
